At MHSC Energy, we understand that lighting is more than just an operational necessity — it’s an integral part of how people experience a space. The right lighting design enhances safety, boosts productivity, creates a welcoming environment, and maximizes energy efficiency. Our recent project at Vera Bank Avery Ranch exemplifies this philosophy, combining precision engineering with thoughtful design to deliver a modern, reliable lighting system throughout the facility.
Project Overview
The Vera Bank Avery Ranch branch presented a unique opportunity to implement a comprehensive lighting plan that addressed a variety of environments within one building. From bright, open lobbies to functional office spaces, restrooms, and storage areas, each area of the bank required a tailored approach.
Our scope included designing and installing:
Overhead recessed 2×4 fixtures for general illumination.
Canned ceiling lights for smaller spaces and accent areas.
Vanity bar fixtures in restrooms.
Strip fixtures in the storage areas for clear, practical lighting.
Elegant chandeliers to add visual appeal to key customer-facing areas.
Emergency lighting — using red fixtures — to ensure safety and code compliance across the property.
The challenge was to create a cohesive design that met both the functional requirements and the aesthetic expectations of a modern financial institution.
Tailored Lighting Design
The lighting plan for Vera Bank Avery Ranch utilized a combination of fixture types, each selected to meet the specific needs of its environment:

This mix of fixtures ensures every space — from customer-facing areas to employee-only work zones — is properly illuminated for its specific use.
Lighting Performance and Brightness
One of the key goals for this project was delivering consistent, high-quality lighting across all areas of the bank. Using precise photometric analysis, we designed a layout that maximized both uniformity and efficiency.
Lobby and Hallways: Average illumination measured 85.74 foot-candles, translating to approximately 922 lux. This high level of brightness ensures the space feels clean, modern, and inviting, while also meeting the strict visibility standards often required for public-facing commercial spaces.
Office Areas: Average illumination measured 44.33 foot-candles, or about 477 lux, providing optimal brightness for day-to-day tasks without causing glare or eye strain for employees working extended hours.
To ensure accuracy, we used the standard conversion rate of 1 foot-candle = 10.764 lux, guaranteeing that our design met both U.S. and international lighting standards.
Uniformity was another major priority. Uneven lighting can create discomfort, shadows, and safety risks. By carefully planning fixture placement and beam angles, we ensured smooth, consistent coverage that eliminates dark spots while maintaining efficiency.
Emergency Lighting for Safety
Safety is at the core of every MHSC Energy project, and this installation was no exception. Red emergency lighting was installed throughout the facility, with fixtures placed in nearly every room and along all primary exit routes.
In the event of a power outage or emergency, these lights ensure that hallways, exits, and high-traffic areas remain visible, allowing employees and customers to navigate the building safely and efficiently. This critical layer of protection not only meets building code requirements but also reflects the bank’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment.
Key Benefits of the Upgrade
The lighting upgrade at Vera Bank Avery Ranch delivers a range of benefits:
Improved Energy Efficiency: By incorporating high-output, low-wattage fixtures, the bank reduces overall energy consumption without compromising light quality.
Enhanced Aesthetics: Sleek, modern fixtures — including chandeliers and recessed cans — elevate the visual appeal of both customer-facing and employee-only areas.
Better Work Environments: Bright, uniform office lighting supports employee productivity, reduces fatigue, and creates a more comfortable workspace.
Low Maintenance: Durable fixtures and high light loss factors minimize maintenance needs and ensure reliable performance over time.
Compliance and Safety: Strategic placement of emergency lighting enhances safety while ensuring compliance with building codes and industry best practices.
A Collaborative, High-Performance Project
What sets this project apart is the collaboration between our design and installation teams. Every decision — from fixture selection to mounting heights — was made with careful consideration of both the technical requirements and the human experience of the space.
The result is a lighting system that not only meets the functional needs of Vera Bank Avery Ranch but also supports its brand image as a modern, customer-focused financial institution.
Looking Ahead
At MHSC Energy, we view every project as an opportunity to showcase how custom lighting solutions can transform spaces. From initial consultation to final installation, we focus on delivering results that combine performance, efficiency, and design.
The Vera Bank Avery Ranch project stands as a testament to the difference that thoughtful lighting can make — creating an environment that is safer, brighter, and more efficient for years to come.
