Precision Lighting Solutions at Camping World RV Nashville

At MHSC Energy, we take pride in designing lighting systems that combine precision, efficiency, and reliability. Our recent project at Camping World RV Nashville highlights how the right lighting strategy can dramatically improve visibility, safety, and energy performance across a large, multi-purpose facility.

This project required a three-fixture layout to address the unique needs of different spaces, including retail, office, service, and storage areas. The result is a high-performance lighting system that meets modern standards while supporting the daily operations of one of the busiest RV facilities in the region.

Project Overview

Camping World RV Nashville serves multiple functions: a customer-focused sales floor, a multi-level office area, a high-ceiling storage area, and spacious service bays designed to accommodate large RVs. Each of these areas presented distinct lighting challenges.

Key goals of the project included:

  • Achieving consistent, high-quality illumination across all zones.

  • Increasing brightness in storage and service areas without creating glare.

  • Optimizing the placement of high-output fixtures to avoid shadowing, particularly when large RVs are moved in and out of service bays.

  • Enhancing energy efficiency while ensuring long-term durability and low maintenance requirements.

Fixture Selection and Design

The facility required a thoughtful mix of fixtures tailored to the function of each area. Here’s a breakdown of the luminaires used and their specifications:

Smart Fixture Placement

The service bays at Camping World RV Nashville required careful planning to achieve consistent, shadow-free illumination. By positioning the high-output fixtures along the edges of the bays, we ensured that light spread evenly down the length and sides of the RVs. This eliminated the “black-out” effect that often happens when large vehicles enter high-bay areas.

In the office and retail spaces, fixtures were installed within a t-bar ceiling system, offering a clean, modern look while maintaining excellent light levels for employees and customers. The storage area, with its high ceilings and dense racking systems, required especially bright lighting to compensate for the way shelving can block light spread.

Lighting Performance

The new system was designed to achieve optimal brightness across every area of the facility. Here are the measured average illumination levels:

  • Offices & Halls: 7.23 foot-candles (~77.8 lux)

  • Second Floor Offices: 60.53 foot-candles (~651 lux)

  • Retail Area: 73.27 foot-candles (~789 lux)

  • Service Bays: 92.17 foot-candles (~992 lux)

  • Storage Area: 112.68 foot-candles (~1,212 lux)

Note: 1 foot-candle = 10.764 lux.

These results reflect a significant increase in light levels across the entire facility, improving safety, visibility, and functionality.

Layout and Reflectance Planning

Key layout factors included:

  • Wall Heights: 16–19 feet

  • Mounting Heights: 8, 12, 16, and 19 feet

  • Workplane Height: 2.5 feet

  • Reflectance Values:

    • Ceiling: 0.80

    • Walls: 0.50

    • Floors: 0.20

By carefully considering the building’s reflectance characteristics, the system maximized light efficiency while minimizing hotspots or uneven coverage.

Benefits of the Upgrade

This upgrade delivered a range of operational and aesthetic benefits:

  • Improved Safety
Bright, consistent lighting reduces shadows and dark areas, minimizing the risk of accidents in high-traffic and service zones.

  • Enhanced Productivity
Technicians benefit from clean, uniform light in service areas, allowing for greater precision and reduced strain during detailed tasks.

  • Energy Efficiency
Advanced LED technology delivers high lumen output with lower wattage, reducing overall energy consumption and utility costs.

  • Better Customer Experience
The bright, modern look in retail and office spaces creates a professional and welcoming environment that reflects the brand’s quality.

  • Low Maintenance
Durable, high-performance fixtures reduce the need for frequent replacements, saving time and operational costs.

A Tailored Solution for a Complex Space

The Camping World RV Nashville project demonstrates MHSC Energy’s ability to customize lighting solutions for facilities with diverse needs. By combining advanced fixtures, data-driven design, and expert installation, we delivered a system that supports the day-to-day operations of the business while enhancing safety, efficiency, and long-term value.

Every detail — from high-output fixtures in the service bays to efficient downlights in the offices — was planned to maximize the effectiveness and reliability of the system.
